KARTING

Juniors and Cadets open 2023 Karting season.

The 2023 karting season opened last weekend with the first round of the Junior and Cadet categories where Lexcus Lui Chit Chon (Juniors) and Joshua Cosgrow (Cadets) took the first victories of the year.

Cadets

Having moved up from the Bambino class in which they competed last season, all the drivers in the Cadet class adapted well for their first race of the season.

In the final, Joshua Cosgrow, who had started from pole position was soon passed by Noah Moulinie at the start and a little while later by Maya Moulinie and behind them Loïc Raoul, Hayden Leong-Pon and Hugo Patel fought fiercely among themselves to try to stay in contention. Joshua immediately got past Maya for second by the third lap and set his sights on Noah who was doing well leading the race, however a slightly wider entry to a corner gave Joshua the opportunity to overtake and he took the lead which he held to the end with Noah heading his sister Maya for second and third represently. It was tight however between Hugo, Hayden and Loic, but as both Hayden and Hugo made small mistakes, Loic stayed calm to snatch fourth place with Hayden fifth and Hugo sixth. Joshua’s victory time for the 7 lap final was 5:17:614 and also set the fastest Cadet lap time of 44.277seconds.

JUNIORS: Here the group were also getting accustomed to racing the more powerful kart for the first time. Lexcus Lui Chit Chon made a good start from pole position whilst Rudolph Camille next to him tried to make a move into the first corner but was unsuccessful and had to chase from then on, behind them Kenno Leong-Pon starting in third had an almighty battle with Julius Sinon for third position. This went on for the entire 7 laps until the pressure that Julius was pounding on Keeno paid off when he got past him 2 laps from the end. Kerion Thomas, who has made a return to Karting after a very long layoff was slowly getting accustomed to the karts again and learning the new track layout as the race progressed. He finished fifth in the final and made great strides on improving his lap times towards the end.

Lexcus’s race time was 5:12:352 for the 7 laps and also set the fastest Junior lap time of 43:385seconds.

This Saturday sees the Intermediate C class taking to the track for their first round.
