Georgina Henry, 37, who was recently promoted to Four Seasons Resort Seychelles’ Department Head as Guest Experience Manager has been congratulated by the minister responsible for tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde in a short ceremony recently at the resort.

The mother of three, whose career spanned over 13 years, started as a casual worker in the laundry department in 2010 and was soon after employed in the Housekeeping team, where she spent two years – initially as attendant, followed by the post of supervisor.

Ms Henry then got transferred to the Front of House operations as Front Desk Supervisor, where she spent another two years interacting with the resort’s guests and creating amazing guest experiences.

She then took a sidestep to the Executive Office, assisting as a supporting role to the Senior Management of Four Seasons Resort Seychelles.

After five years, she stepped back into operations, taking on new challenges and helped grow and develop Four Seasons’ guest experiences and operations.

In May this year, Ms Georgina Henry was promoted to the post of Department Head as Guest Experience Manager.

Ms Henry’s main duties are to take care of guests from the time they are setting up their holiday to when they actually set foot in Seychelles, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

“When they are here, I need to have that connection with them and ensure everything is fine, and address the complaints promptly, if any. So I need to be on top of things so that when they leave Seychelles they can commend us and talk happily of their stay, not only at Four Seasons but Seychelles as a whole,” said Ms Henry.

The new appointee who is very proud of her achievement claimed the 13 years had not always been easy, but she persevered to get to where she was today.

She said she had to stay back after her normal shift and spent long hours learning new things

“It was not easy in the beginning, but I was lucky because some people saw what I was about, what I had and what I wanted to do. But not everything came on a silver platter,” she stated, adding it was her “willingness to learn and wanting to go forward, that helped me”.

She also had a special thank you for her mother who was taking care of her kids’ daily duties while she was putting in extra hours at the hotel.

Mr Henry has called on young people joining the industry to be mindful that it is a tough job and not to be dissuaded by the challenges that exist, stating they would be everywhere all the time.

“The two biggest challenges you hear are lack of job and people making others’ lives difficult, but are you there for people or for yourself? Whatever happens put you first, cry if you have to, but put yourself first,” she stated.

For his part, Minister Radegonde commended Ms Henry on her achievement and for being a role model for the younger generation. To conclude the short ceremony, he presented her with a token on behalf of his ministry, to show his appreciation.
