Gold medal and PB for Jerold Alexis in 200m

Young sprinter Jerold Alexis left his mark at the Maryse Justin Stadium in Réduit, Mauritius on Saturday, winning the 200m final of the Mauritius U-20 Pepsi Black National Championships to clinch the gold medal.

Alexis clocked 21.68 seconds which is also his personal best (PB) time.

He was again in action in the 100m final where he finished second in 10.89 seconds for the silver medal.

In the 400m final, Neil Azemia’s PB of 49.30 seconds was not enough to give him the win as he came in second for the silver medal.

Azemia also featured in the 100m final where he finished fourth in 11.23 seconds.

Shane Fred was also on the podium on Saturday, collecting his bronze medal after finishing third in the 400m after clocking 49.45 seconds which is also his PB.

The girls’ 4x100m relay team, made up of Leah Pool, Angela Calva, Emmanuella Larue, and Naomi Toussaint collected the competition’s silver medal after finishing second in the final, clocking 26.77 seconds.

Calva also featured in 100m where she could only managed a fifth-place finish in 13.0 seconds.

It is to note that hammer thrower Don Wirtz gave Seychelles its first gold medal during the earlier stage of the competition with a throw of 52m which is also his PB.

The athletes are being accompanied by coaches Giovanni Fanny and Joseph Adam, while Monica Samson is the team manager.
