Fédération internationale de Football Association secretary general Fatma Samoura met Seychelles Football Federation staff yesterday morning and thanked them for the work they are doing to promote football in Seychelles especially among women young girls and boys.

She gave Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) president Elvis Chetty the official Women’s World Cup match ball as well as Fifa pennant and got an SFF pennant.

The official match ball of the women’s World Cup has the latest goal-line technology and its design represents the indigenous people in Oceania where the design was originated.

Ms Samoura then went to Praslin accompanied by Mr Chetty on an excursion and visited sports facilities there.

The outgoing Fédération Internationale de Football Association (Fifa) secretary general arrived here on Sunday a three-day visit and was welcomed by SFF boss Chetty.

On Monday, she paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family Marie-Celine Zialor at the Family House, Bel Eau.

In an interview with the media, Ms Samoura said it was an opportunity for the minister and her to talk about women’s football in Seychelles and to see how ready and prepared the government of Seychelles is to host the 2025 Beach Soccer World Cup.

Senegal-born Samoura became Fifa's first female and non-European secretary general seven years ago and under her leadership women’s football has gained new impetus.

According to Fifa, she played a pivotal role in transforming the organisation, restoring its credibility and breaking down barriers.
