Women’s Parliamentary Caucus discusses domestic violence with ministerial stakeholders

The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus of the National Assembly (WPC) met with the Minister for Youth, Sports and Family, Marie-Celine Zialor and the director general Jane Larue, on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Parliamentary precinct.

The aim of the meeting was to review certain recommendations and constraints that have been observed in the Domestic Violence Act and were raised in the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Workshop, held in 2022.

Both parties discussed the way forward and the different ways that the Model Law can be further improved.

The WPC will continue the dialogue with the ministry and stay engaged on issues pertaining to domestic and gender-based violence.

Hon. Audrey Vidot, the vice-chairperson of the committee chaired the meeting in the absence of the chairperson, Hon. Regina Esparon, who is currently on an overseas mission.

Other members present were Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel, Hon. Kelly Samynadin, Hon. Doyace Porice and Hon. Desheila Bastienne.
