Seychelles golf delegation tees off today at prestigious event

 

A high-spirited delegation of Seychellois golfers has landed in Madagascar to take part in the eagerly anticipated Indian Ocean Inter Island golf tournament.

The esteemed event, scheduled to take place from August 22 to 25, promises an exceptional showcase of skill and friendly competition among the participating nations.

Heading the Seychelles delegation is captain William Weidner, a seasoned golfer known for his remarkable performance on the course. Alongside him, the Seychellois team comprise three other accomplished golfers – Jerry Jean-Baptiste, Godefroy Andrade, and Jemmy Esther. This formidable ensemble of golfing talent is poised to make a resounding mark at the tournament.

Having touched down in Madagascar on Tuesday, the Seychelles delegation is wasting no time in familiarising themselves with the lush golf course in Andakana. Yesterday, the team engaged in a practice round, honing their skills and adapting to the local conditions, in preparation for the impending challenge.

The centrepiece of the event is a riveting 54-hole, three-round team competition set to tee off today. Golf enthusiasts and spectators can anticipate a thrilling exhibition of golfing brilliance as the Seychelles team navigate the greens and compete for top honours.

The Indian Ocean Inter Island golf tournament, a quadrennial event, holds significance as a symbol of unity and sportsmanship among the Indian Ocean nations. As part of the rotation, the current tournament is hosted by Madagascar and will unfold at the prestigious Golf du Rova course in Andakana. The tournament brings together golf enthusiasts from five nations: Seychelles, Madagascar, Mayotte, Réunion, and Mauritius.

The Seychelles delegation extends heartfelt gratitude to the tournament's organisers, sponsors, and supporters for their invaluable contributions in making this event a reality. The team are honoured to represent Seychelles on this esteemed international stage and are steadfast in their commitment to delivering an outstanding performance.
