New Brazilian ambassador presents credentials

Ambassador Nogueira presents his credentials to President Ramkalawan

The new Brazilian ambassador to Seychelles, Gustavo Nogueira, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan yesterday morning at State House.

Speaking to the press after his meeting with the President, Ambassador Nogueira said they talked about a range of issues of common interest between the two countries.

He added that he also took the opportunity to congratulate President Ramkalawan for his advocacy on important issues related to small island developing states on the international arena; the United Nations and in other international forums.

“We have a range of bilateral arrangements that we are discussing at different degrees of implementation and it is to do with tourism, with technical cooperation and with further strengthening the flow of people and investment between the two countries,” Ambassador Nogueira said.

Ambassador Nogueira added that he was hopeful of further face to face discussions with the president as well as with other members of the cabinet including the team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism to pursue other opportunities of cooperation while strengthening more the existing bilateral relations, which are doing great at the moment.

The ambassador stated that he also conveyed to President Ramkalawan warm greetings and best wishes for future development from President Lula da Silva and the Brazilian people.

Also present during yesterday’s credential ceremony and discussions were the principal secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Vivianne Fock Tave and the Brazilian honorary consul in the country, Robert Morgan.

Ambassador Nogueira is the second Brazilian ambassador to be accredited and he replaces Ambassador Antonio Cesar who was accredited to Seychelles in February 2019.

He will be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

While in the country he will also call on local dignitaries including ministers and principal secretaries.

Brazil and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on November 12, 1986.
