PLS Suns gain experience from training camp in Turkey

Youth basketball team PLS Suns are back after attending a week-long training camp in Kayseri, Turkey. The delegation of 29 players returned on December 18 after also taking part in educational classes and cultural activities during their visit to Turkey.

In an interview with Sports NATION, PLS Suns head coach Jerry Andrew, who is also a physical instructor, said he aims to develop more youths in basketball.

“We are on the right track. If we work towards developing our youths, the results will be outstanding,” said coach Andrew.

He added that the kids were very engaging in their training with Hasketbol Sport Club and they showed great enthusiasm in their exhibition matches against Erciyes College, Ted Kayseri College and Tekden College.

PLS Suns also played against different high schools in the region and the young Seychellois were warmly welcomed by the Turkish sides.

Coach Andrew also mentioned that they took part in educational classes whereby the Seychellois students were able to attend sessions and interact with Turkish scholars.

He added that they also did some cultural activities to share knowledge and the traditions of Seychelles and at night some parents hosted all the players in their homes for dinner.

“The kids were happy during the trip and you could see the energy they brought on and off the court. The experience they have gained will surely motivate them to push harder and I hope many more youths in Seychelles can receive such opportunities to help grow their sporting career,” said coach Andrew.

To conclude Mr Andrew thanked the Plaisance secondary school, the parents, and ex-students for providing their continuous support in the quest to developing the youths in basketball. On the same note, he thanked all the sponsors namely Kumar & Kumar, Amusement Centre and the school management for making it possible for them to follow the training camp in Turkey.
