Chetty shatters own 200m indoor record

Natasha Chetty has broken the Seychelles 200m indoor record again when she clocked 24.55 seconds over the distance at the Mountain West Indoor Championship 2024 in the United States of America on Friday February 23.

Based in the United States of America, Chetty was ranked 18th out of 34 athletes and Nevada all-time list. The 23-year-old is studying accounting on a full scholarship at the University of Nevada Reno in the United States of America.

Asked how she felt after improving her own record twice this year, Chetty replied: “In my head I was so mad and disappointed cause I felt like I was running slowly. lt was like I could have gone faster. After crossing the finish line I said to myself: ‘You messed it up this time.’ But when I looked at the clock I was so surprised with the time I had clocked. My coach even ran to me saying ‘you broke the record again’. My other coach also came to me saying ‘you made the Nevada all-time list’. Although I did not make it to the final, it was a pretty good race and I am quite satisfied with my results.”

Ranked fifth overall in the Sportswoman of the Year 2023 ranking, Chetty also said “overall, it was a pretty good indoor season and I am very happy to have ended it on a really good note. I never expected to break the 200m indoor national record, and I’m incredibly grateful to have done it for a third time now.”

Chetty first established the 200m indoor record of 25.26 seconds on February 3 at an inter-school tournament which was held in Spokane, Washington where she was ranked 32nd out of 101 athletes.

On February 19, Chetty stopped the clock at 24.99 seconds in the 200m race to finish first in her heat and 42nd out of 105 sprinters who were divided into 27 heats.
