Team Seychelles gear up for second continental tournament

Despite the festive season quickly closing in, the national beach soccer selection are in full preparation for the forthcoming COPA Dar es Salaam tournament which will take place from December 20-26 at the Coco beach, Oysterbay – Dar es Salaam City, Tanzania.

It will be Seychelles’ second experience at the tournament, after taking part last year where our local players finished third overall.

Seychelles also received the cup for the most disciplined team, while Travis Cadeau was mentioned as the tournament’s best performing goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, this year Cadeau will not be part of the team due to work commitment.

Hosted by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), this year’s competition will be played in a two-group league of four teams, with each playing once against each other.

The top two teams in each group shall qualify for the semifinals while the bottom two teams shall play for the playoffs for the fifth to eighth places.

A total of 20 matches are expected to be played during the five days of the tournament.

Eight countries, namely Uganda, Malawi, Seychelles, Burundi, Libya, Kenya, Mozambique and hosts Tanzania are expected at the yearly rendez-vous.

Team Seychelles will leave the country on December 18 and will be back on December 29.
