Seychellois students in China to be evacuated

Based on the gravity of the coronavirus situation in China, a decision has been taken to evacuate Seychellois students studying there, the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development announced yesterday.

“This will be done on a priority basis, starting with the areas of most urgency which are Bejing and Shanghai. For our two Seychellois students in Wuhan, negotiations are on-going since the city is on lock down,” the ministry says in a communiqué.

Meanwhile the Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD) has assured parents that it will continue to maintain direct contact with them and the students, as well as inform them of any new development.

The ministry has thanked the parents and students for their cooperation and understanding.

The decision to evacuate the students follows a second meeting the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and its key partners, namely the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had yesterday with parents of the students studying in China.

It is to be recalled that a first meeting was held with the parents last Friday.
