Praslin community benefit from road surfacing project

A recently completed road surfacing project at Grand Anse Praslin is expected to ease the lives of residents living there.

The Modestie Road Surfacing Project was officially inaugurated and handed over to the authorities by the high commissioner of India, General Dalbir Singh Suhag, on February 14, 2020.

The project, costing R504,300, is funded under India’s grant assistance and is being implemented by Seychelles based 'W Building Constructor', thereby directly contributing to more employment opportunities for Seychellois.

The project falls under the 33 High Impact Community Development Projects being undertaken in Seychelles.

Speaking at the event, High Commissioner (HC) Suhag said he was happy to note that with this event, the local government projects on Praslin have reached the completion stage and added that these 33 projects under final stages of implementation shall not only generate more employment and business opportunities to Seychellois, but also touch the lives of each and every one.

HC Suhag noted that the surfacing and extension of Modestie Road will not only improve safety and accessibility but also be a lifeline for 14 families in this locality, providing them motorable road for the daily transportation especially for the school children and especially in case of any emergencies.

He added that the high commission is working closely with the Ministry of Local Government in undertaking these high impact projects, which will have maximum positive impact for the community as a whole.

Dignitaries and guests present at the event included the member of National Assembly (MNA) for Grand Anse, Praslin, Hon. Wavel Woodcock and the principal secretary for local government, Marie Celine Vidot.

It is praiseworthy to note that the government of India is already assisting Seychelles in constructing the 3 National Priority Projects of Seychelles including Government House Secretariat Building, new Police Headquarters with forensic laboratory, new Attorney General's Office all put together costing an estimated R1.4 billion (USD 100 million).

Apart from this, the government of India will be constructing the state-of-the-art International Convention Centre in Mahé with a capacity of 2000 pax named after Mahatma Gandhi, besides the Magistrates’ Courthouse building which is already under construction, all on a grant basis. The Magistrates’ Court project will be completed by May 2020 and handed over to the people of Seychelles.
