European Union Council adopts EU- Seychelles Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement |22 February 2020

The European Union Council has adopted the new EU-Seychelles Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement (SFPA) and its implementing protocol, following several rounds of negotiations since last year.

Both parties are expected to sign the said agreement and its implementing protocol next week, for its provisional application, pending the ratification of the National Assembly and the European Commission.

Following the signing of these important documents, European Union fishing vessels will be able to start fishing in the Seychelles waters.

To note, the SFPA which is from 2020 to 2026 is worth some 58.2 million euros.

The previous protocol expired on January 17, 2020.
