Cable and Wireless donates MIFI, 25GB package to Red Cross
Cable and Wireless (Seychelles) has donated 3 MIFI and 25GB to the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS) to facilitate communication among the RCSS volunteers on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue and to stay connected at all times.
The donation of the 3 MIFI and 25GB packages was handed over by Vivian Hoareau, marketing communications and public relations executive from Cable and Wireless (Seychelles) Ltd to Samina Fred, a volunteer of the RCSS, during a short ceremony held at the telecommunications head office at Sunshine House, Providence.
This donation comes at a most opportune time, when the RCSS is working alongside the Ministry of Health (MoH) to help in the fight against COVID-19.
RCSS volunteers are assisting the MoH in contact tracing, which also involves data collection and input.
The RCSS is also on a daily basis in contact with its partners, the International Federation of Red Cross /Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Plateforme D’Intervention Régionale de L’Océan Indien (PIROI), providing updates, reports to ensure technical and financial assistance. This is vital in keeping the RCSSS going as most of its fundings comes from these international partners with the Seychelles government also providing some financial assistance. And during these trying times, the RCSS is among one of the first parties to be called upon to provide its expertise, and technical support.
The RCSS has also advised its volunteers to increase social distancing, a term applied to certain actions that are taken by public health officials to stop or slow down the spread of a highly contagious disease, in this case COVID-19.
Therefore the donation from Cable and Wireless (Seychelles) Ltd will help in maintaining constant contact with RCSS volunteers to provide updates, reports, and conduct online training for volunteers.
