Futuro Sports Sesel come up with innovative training methods |28 April 2020

Despite the uncertainty faced by sports globally as the world is facing unprecedented times, Futuro Sports Sesel, which is a local sports academy, believes in finding solutions and being innovative.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the plan of Futuro Sports Sesel still remains the same, which is to continue to inspire the youths and develop young Seychellois football professionals.

In difficult times, it is important to be creative and find new ways of doing things that suit the current situation.

Under the guidance of technical director Steve Herbots, Futuro Sports Sesel ensure that players remain fit during this period. Players have been given home fitness challenges, and a virtual Fifa English league competition has been introduced. The aim is to help players with tactical understandings and goal settings. The players strive to earn promotion while following specific rules.

Moreover, Futuro Sports Sesel have been hosting online Zoom meetings where discussions about tactics, discipline, consistency, and the importance of learning rhythm within the team is emphasised upon. How players need to move in relation to the ball – offensively and defensively – has also been part of these online discussions.

“We want our players to be able to think of themselves being on the pitch and understand what to do in different scenarios on the pitch. We make it very interactive, followed by a homework while ensuring it doesn’t clash with their studies,” states Lucas Panayi, founder and chair of Futuro Sports Sesel.

Players are also taught the philosophy of football, emphasising that there isn’t only one way of playing, but instead there are different systems and understandings. However, one has to be open to those approaches.

Nevertheless, players are excited to get back onto the pitch with great ambitions.

Youth development remains the focus of the academy.
