Local beers get international accolade

Two beer brands in the portfolio of Seychelles Breweries Ltd, namely its flagship brand the Seybrew and Seybrew Lite, have received Silver medals from the Monde Selection, a renowned international quality institute based in Belgium.

The quality institute offers global evaluation of consumer products such as food, spirits, beverages and health products, to mention a few, by a selection of professional juries.

Seybrew and Seybrew Lite form part of over 3000 products evaluated in the nominations for 2020. The medals awarded are based on average points given by the different jury members.

“Our export manager, Nick Ross, believed that it was time for SeyBrew to gain greater international exposure. SeyBrew is a great tasting beer and deserves international accreditation, particularly as we embark on exports,” said Mary-Anne Ernesta, corporate relations manager for Seychelles Breweries Ltd (SBL).

She added that the beer went before a panel of independent internationally renowned experts that assesses the quality of consumer products.

Monde Selection offers a range from Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. It is considered to be one of highest international quality institutes in the world for culinary awards. Two silver awards on our first assessment is a big achievement,” said Ms Ernesta.

SBL is now eligible to display the silver medals on the packaging of its two beer brands, as an indication that these two products have been highly appreciated and recognised in an independent and professional manner.

The managing director (MD) of SBL, Conor Neiland, has described this achievement as very important and is a result of the hard work of the company’s supply team to ensure that the brewery manufactures products that are of very high standards.

“This has also been supported by the high flavour scores which our top beer products have been receiving over the last couple of months from Dublin.

These achievements have been driven by several measures we have put in place to help improve processes and best practices within brewing,” the MD said.

In the 59 years the awards have been held, it is the first time Seybrew participated.
