The SADC secretariat and the United Republic of Tanzania as the Chair hosted the 3rd virtual meeting of the SADC council of ministers last Friday, May 29.

The Seychelles delegation was led by Ambassador Barry Faure, the country's National Contact Point to the organisation. He was accompanied by Amenda Padayachy, director general for International Cooperation & Regional Integration; Jean-Paul d’Offay, director for Regional Integration; second secretary Rodney Sinon and third secretary Jeremy Radegonde.

The meeting considered a number of salient agenda items, such as the socio-economic impact of COVID-19 and its implications on the SADC region, the finances of the organisation during COVID-19 period, disaster risk management & response etc.

In support to the discussions that ensued on the various topics, Seychelles urged the council meeting to accelerate the work that the secretariat has begun to support the three remaining IOC countries – Seychelles, Comoros and Madagascar – with the alignment of their national industrialisation strategies and policies to that of SADC industrialisation strategy.
