Seychelles gets two new millionaires

Chloe Lasplace and Marcus Hertel are the two lucky winners of the Mini Maz Millions lottery, turning into millionaires overnight.

The much-awaited Mini Maz Millions draw was held yesterday at the STC conference hall in which Lasplace from Plaisance, scooped up the R1.5 million star prize with winning ticket number 07970.

Meanwhile the first prize of R1 million went to Hertel from Amitié, Praslin with ticket number 00489.

A certain D. Azemia from Victoria took home the second prize of R500,000 and M. Zoe, also from Victoria, won the third prize of R250,000.

The lottery draw was streamed and broadcasted live yesterday evening, and gave out a total of 21 prizes.

Maz Millions went to great lengths to ensure that the draw was held in transparency, from the presence of a licensing officer and police officer to manual drawing of ticket numbers by youths who were blindfolded.

Usually held on a much higher scale with a family fun day, the first Maz Millions draw for 2020 had to be down-scaled in order to adhere to the safety measures promoted by the department of health due to COVID-19.

Consequently the STC conference hall was almost empty and the few present had to observe social distancing.

The novel coronavirus had also delayed the draw which had initially been scheduled for March 29.

Marie-France MacGregor, co-owner of Maz Millions, revealed that Maz Millions is now gearing up for a second Mini Maz lottery for this year.

The tickets are expected to go on sale in mid-June, to be drawn in September.

Mrs MacGregor however noted that Maz Millions has taken the current COVID-19 pandemic and its economical impacts into consideration, and will not be holding its big Maz Million lottery this year.

“Instead we will look into holding a hybrid between the Mini Maz and the big Maz Million lottery for December. It would be quite hard for some people to pay out R1,000 for a ticket during this difficult time so we are thinking of pricing the ticket for this one at R500,” said Mrs MacGregor.

“We will also divide the millions so that more people have the chance to become a millionaire,” she added.
