CANA Zone IV Championships 2019 – February 16-20

Seychelles finishes fifth overall with seven gold medals

Seychellois swimmers won two more gold medals and two silver yesterday on the last day of competition at the Confédération Africaine de Natation (Cana) Zone IV Swimming Championships in Windhoek, Namibia.

This brought the country’s contingent medals tally to 19 – 7 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze – to take fifth place overall out of 12 countries on the medals table.

It is important to note that Seychelles have won four other gold medals in open water swimming but these medals were scrapped as they are non-championship races.

On the last day yesterday, Mathieu Bachmann had only one challenger in the men’s 17 years and over 200 butterfly and he won in 2:20.89 for the gold medal.

He then joined forces with Tyler Fred, Adam Moncherry and Dean Hoffman to capture the men’s 15 years and over 200m freestyle relay gold medal in a time of 1:39.31.

The two silver medals went to Tyler Fred in the boys’ 15-16 years 100m freestyle with 55.19 seconds, and Mathieu Bachmann in the men’s 17 years and over 200m freestyle in 2:18.54.
