National Assembly election 2020

One Seychelles reveals six more candidates

The One Seychelles political party has presented a further six candidates for the parliamentary election in October 2020, bringing to 15 the number of candidates the party has revealed so far.

The six new candidates are Mike Maria for Takamaka, Randy Alphonse for Anse Royale, Hervey Anthony for Au Cap, Joella St Ange for Anse Aux Pins, Delroy Finesse for English River and Ralph Ernesta for Anse Etoile.

It was the leader of the party and presidential candidate Alain St Ange who revealed the names of the six candidates in the presence of party activists and the press in a ceremony held yesterday morning at the residence of Jane Carpin at Anse Aux Pins.

Peter Sinon, the vice-presidential candidate of the party, was also present.

It is to be noted that the representative for Takamaka. Mike Maria, was not present at the ceremony due to work commitment on board a fishing vessel off the coast of Somalia as a fishing observer.

Addressing the candidates Mr St Ange stressed on the importance of staying connected with their electorates and to also act on their behalf in the National Assembly.

He also called on all candidates to stay united amid what he described as “bullying tactics” to downplay their morals.

One Seychelles officially announced its first three candidates – Yvon Esther for Grand Anse Praslin; Dean Padayachi for Baie Ste Anne Praslin and Elna Etienne for the Inner Islands (La Digue) – on August 21, 2020, in a ceremony at Chez Marston, La Digue. It was followed by the presentation of six other party candidates – Dorina Vidot for Anse Boileau; Dieter Dugasse for Glacis; Bernard St Ange for Perseverance; Maryline Zita Marie for Pointe Larue; Brian Soumery for Port Glaud and Steve Denis for Bel Air, in a ceremony held on August 27, 2020, at the Chili Bar restaurant, La Louise.

The party is expected to reveal the names of the remaining candidates for other districts during its convention to be held at the Seychelles Trading Company’s (STC) conference room, Latanier Road, on September 13, 2020.
