EC rectifies error in PPB draw for National Assembly candidates |24 September 2020

During the nomination ceremony for the National Assembly election which took place on Friday September 18, 2020, the draw for PPB (party political broadcasts) was done.

During this draw Independent candidates were erroneously allocated PPB spots for opening, closing and district specific PPBs. As per section 92 of the elections act an Independent candidate is only allowed a maximum of 5 minutes of free political broadcast (PPB) and this is for the programme relating to the districts in which they are running for candidacy.

Both Independent candidates, Keith Andre for Beau Vallon and Holbert Jean for St Louis, have been informed of this error and of their allotted times for PPBs leading up to the National Assembly election to be held on October 22, 23 and 24, 2020.

The Electoral Commission apologises for any confusion that this error may have caused and renews its commitment to running an election that is free and fair.
