President Faure pays tribute to outgoing Japanese PM, congratulates successor |25 September 2020

President Danny Faure has sent a message of appreciation to the outgoing Prime Minister of Japan, Abe Shinzo, and a congratulatory message to the incoming Prime Minister of Japan, Suga Yoshihide.

In his first address to the outgoing Prime Minister Shinzo, President Faure states: “I am pleased that the invaluable contributions made by you personally have served as reinforcement in our countries’ mutual dedication to achieve our shared goals and ambitions in areas like environmental protection, fisheries, disaster risk management and the blue economy as part of our joint efforts to elevate our exemplary partnership to greater heights”.

President Faure also made reference to their engagements during the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad) Summit 2019, held in Yokohama, Japan whereby the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interests and concerns.

He also expressed his congratulations to Suga Yoshihide following his recent ascent to the office of Prime Minister of Japan.

“Your appointment as the leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Prime Minister of Japan is testimony to the utmost trust and unequivocal support the overwhelming majority of members of Parliament of Japan places in you to further continue with the devotion and service for the well-being of the Japanese people.

“I am confident, that under your leadership Japan will continue to flourish as an exemplary nation, determined, resilient and focused in the achievement of set objectives for the enjoyment of continued prosperity and success,” he concluded.

Seychelles and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1976.
