Airtel and its staff have donated some materials to the Maternity Ward, the second such donation made by the telecom company since the outbreak of Covid-19.

Marie-Pierre Volcère, responsible for Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR) at Airtel, noted that this donation is from Airtel and from the staff.

“In April this year, when we realised that Covid-19 was affecting the community, Airtel and its staff started contributing so as to donate to needy organisations. In April we contributed a sum of money to the hospital and now it is our second donation and it is specifically to the Maternity Ward,” she said.

Even amid Covid-19, the staff are still motivated to contribute towards this fund as the company does a lot for them and also life starts at maternity, noted Ms Volcère.

Marie-Josée Dang Kow, nurse manager at the Maternity Ward, is thankful for this donation and the much needed items.

“This is the second time we are receiving some basic items that we need in the ward for the staff’s and patients’ comfort. We have 35 midwives and per shift we have four to three midwives. We are lucky we have not received any case of Covid-19 among the mothers and we are pro-active in our screening. We also have a team of midwives who have been trained if ever we have a patient with Covid-19. We will be able to manage the situation. This donation encourages us all to keep doing our best,” Ms Dang Kow said.

The donation consists of a washing machine, dryer, microwave oven, a printer/photocopier, electric breast pump, electric sterilizer, cutleries, cookery, stationery and a table with four chairs.
