SIF seeks Praslin community’s view on future of Ravin de Fond Ferdinand | 10 October 2020
Following on from the Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF) assumption of responsibility of the Ravin de Fond Ferdinand on September 1, the Foundation has begun to consult the surrounding community via a public survey on the future of this protected area.
This survey, based on Praslin and open to all Seychellois aged 15 and above, begins this week and is the first step in SIF’s participatory management process of this site.
Over the next weeks, SIF staff and student volunteers from Praslin secondary school as well as staff from the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change and the Seychelles National Parks Authority will be approaching members of the public in strategic locations across Praslin to obtain a representative sample of the community’s view.
It is hoped that the survey will assess 800 people, roughly 10% of Praslin’s population.
The surveys are being carried out on mobile phones through Survey Monkey and are accessible in both Kreol and English. It is anonymous, has ten questions, which are mostly multiple choice and should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Mindful of the Covid-19 pandemic, all surveyors will be wearing masks and keeping a distance of 1.5 metres from respondents. Each surveyor will also have a badge identifying themselves.
SIF kindly requests the public’s participation and assistance with the completion of this survey which aims to guide its management of the Ravin de Fond Ferdinand.
