People working in essential services and those travelling during the election period turned up in large numbers to cast their vote.

Some 3,387 people are expected to vote in this station.

The station there opened at 7am and is expected to close at 4pm.

The electoral officer responsible for the station is Jerina Ah-Tive and the voting process there got off to a slow start and Ms Ah-Tive said they started with two queues but they went on to add another table for a third queue to speed up the process.

At around 8.20am, 129 people had already cast their votes and at 10.55am, 342 people had already voted, but the long queues still persist and people were complaining at the slow pace of the process.

There were people whose names did not feature on the list sent by their work places but they were not turned away. Since they have their ID cards their situation was cleared through an affidavit and they managed to vote. Pregnant women were also fast-tracked.

Meanwhile, representatives of the different political parties, namely Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) and United Seychelles came by to see how the voting process was being carried out.

Local observers as well as a diplomat from the French Embassy also visited the station.

 

Remand Centre Bois de Rose

The station there opened at 8am and is expected to close at 12 noon to allow any other persons who happen to be placed on remand that day to vote..

Altogether 32 remandees were expected to vote there. Benett Accouche is the electoral officer in charge of the station.

The voting process went smoothly there but only 23 people were able to cast their ballots. The nine others were not able to vote as there were certain issues surrounding registration.

The voting process there took place under the watchful eyes of East African Standby Force (EASF) monitors as well as CDWS observers.

 

North East Point Home for the elderly

The station there opened a little after 8am and is expected to close at 12 noon.

There are 97 people registered to vote there and 49 are residents from Glacis. Before noon 69 people had already voted and several of them who have mobility problem received assistance to vote.

Nicholas Shamlaye who is the electoral officer responsible for the station there expressed his satisfaction that the voting process there had gone very smoothly.

 

Voting on Farquhar

Voting on Farquhar island completed at 12.05pm.
