UN Youth Seychelles (UNYS) with the support of Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) organised a 'Future Cost' Panel discussion for the Miss Seychelles contestant on Saturday morning.

The aim was to outline the economic landscape, equipping them with financial capabilities and responsible financial practices for them to better convey financial awareness messages to the public.

During the financial education workshop, facilitated by Wellington Manjengwa, the participants learned about budget management, investment opportunities among other topics, and embarked on a journey to become more financially aware.

“The workshop will empower these young ladies not only in the field of finance but also give them the necessary knowledge that will equip them with personal finance skills which would ultimately help them with their chosen projects,” said Mr Manjengwa.

The session started with the facilitator giving an overview of the impact of Covid-19 on the economy and how it translate into our own personal finances.

“The impacts of Covid-19 have left several economies in great difficulty and Seychelles has not been spared from this reality. As a result, collective and individual actions are necessary to limit consumption and economic pressures to pave the way to a more sustainable economy,” he said.

Other topics covered included strategies for achieving and setting objectives, monitoring expenses, how to set budgets, inflation and exchange rate.

Mr Manjengwa added that many similar courses have been organised during the year such as the parent and child budgeting workshop which teaches parents and children on setting a budget.

“Last year we organised sessions for secondary school and so far we have got many positive feedback from students and parents.

He noted that the contestants were very enthusiastic about the topic and have given very positive feedback.
