Promoting quality of training and performance in the country

It has been proven that gymnastics helps kids to develop physical skills like body control, coordination and strength, while it also allows children to experience self-confidence through creativity, performance, and helps to lay a strong foundation for other sports that a child might express interest in.

In line with this, the Elite Gymnastic Club, which promotes quality gymnastic training in the country, as well as performance, thus laying the foundation for local gymnasts to compete internationally in the future, is hosting a junior gymnastic competition which will take place on Saturday at the Roche Caïman Omni-sports gym.

Certified by the Seychelles Gymnastic Federation, the competition which will begin at 1pm will feature all the best athletes in the local gymnastics field who will compete in four different levels on vault, uneven bars, beam and floor.

For Saturday’s event, a first group of 19 gymnasts aged between 5-9 years old will be showcasing their skills alongside the more advanced gymnasts from the club.

In operation for over four years, the Elite Gymnastic Club under the guidance of Emma Mothée, is made up of 68 committed athletes between the ages of 3 and 15 years old.

Also enrolled are 20 intermediate and advanced-level students.

Gymnastics helps develop better coordination and body awareness, especially for younger children whose interaction with their surroundings is mostly physical in their early years.

Gymnastics provides them with the skills to interact with their environment in ways that other children cannot.

It also helps build self-morale, determination, and better communication skills, while it also improves quality of sleep, fights depression, and aids weight loss in the most effective way. Participating in gymnastics from a younger age is important, as it targets all muscle groups for total-body strength and flexibility.
