Female visitor to remand facility at Bois de Rose detained for possession of controlled substance

The Seychelles Prison Service (SPS) has confirmed that on Thursday December 10, 2020 at approximately 2.14pm a female visitor to the SPS Bois de Rose remand facility was detained for being in possession of suspected drugs.

The officer conducting the check and search noticed that the female visitor had something in her mouth. The item recovered was in a plastic wrapped cling film white in color and when opened found to be within a piece of gold coloured paper.

Suspecting the item to be drugs the visitor was briefly detained while her details, name, age etc., and place of residence were confirmed.

Being accompanied by two minor male children aged 6 years and 8 years the incident was reported to the Anti-Narcotics Bureau of the Seychelles Police. The incident is being investigated.

The visitor claimed that the item, which she said was heroin, was for her own consumption. The visit following the incident was stopped and the detainee scheduled to receive the visit was questioned.
