Covid-19 update |09 January 2021

31 new infections as 40 begin to recover

The number of positive cases of coronavirus in the community keeps rising by the days as the local health authorities have recorded 31 more cases since Thursday’s update, bringing the total number of positive cases to 451.

According to the latest update, 27 out of the 31 positive cases are Seychellois and the remaining four are foreigners.

On a more positive note, 40 cases, of which 26 Seychellois and 14 foreigners, have met discharge criteria and have been released into convalescence.

The Ministry of Health has noted that all 40 individuals are no longer infectious.

Meanwhile Indian Ocean Tuna (IOT) and Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) have both confirmed that one of their staff tested positive for the virus and contact tracing is currently being conducted.

As the rates keep rising and there are still no leads as to where the cluster of positive cases comes from, the Ministry of Health is advising members of the public to keep respecting the health protocols in place.
