Update on Covid-19 cases Seychelles records its second Covid-related death |18 January 2021

  • 49 new positive cases recorded over the weekend

 

A Seychellois patient who was at the Isolation and Treatment Centre at Perseverance passed away on Saturday, bringing to two the number of Covid-19 related deaths Seychelles has recorded thus far.

The first death was recorded on January 3, 2021 when a 57-year-old man, Vincent Pillay, died from Covid-19 complications. He was also in isolation at the same centre when he passed away.

Meanwhile, 49 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), bringing the total number of cases recorded in Seychelles to 705.

Forty new cases were recorded on Saturday while 9 cases were recorded yesterday.

Of the cases recorded on Saturday, 5 are foreigners and 35 are Seychellois. 38 are on Mahé, 2 are on Praslin.

Of the new cases recorded yesterday, 1 is a foreigner and 8 are Seychellois. All 9 are on Mahé.

All together, 79 cases had recovered (65 by Saturday and 14 yesterday) and have been discharged into convalescence.

All the active cases are in isolation and contact tracing efforts continue.

Everyone is advised to keep interactions to immediate households (the persons you live with) only and to avoid gatherings and crowds. Continue to respect and practice the different measures in place to help stop the spread of Covid-19:

• Wear a mask in public places and where physical distancing cannot be maintained

• Practise hand hygiene regularly

• Avoid gatherings and crowds

• Avoid sharing objects

• Practise physical distancing of more than 1 metre
