President Ramkalawan to deliver State-of-the-nation address today |22 January 2021

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, will deliver his first State-of-the-nation address today at 5pm.

This prestigious event is the occasion whereby the President can speak directly to the people of Seychelles, highlight achievements and priorities, address pertinent issues and speak of policies for the future.

This delivery therefore fulfils an important part of the Constitution of the Third Republic. Article 65 of the Constitution clearly accentuates this point by stating that: “The President shall at the beginning of each year deliver to the Assembly a Message on the State of the Nation”.

After the President has delivered the address, the members of the National Assembly will have the chance to give their replies to the address. This process will start on Monday January 25, 2021 starting with the leader of the opposition, Hon. Sebastien Pillay, followed by the leader of government business, Hon. Bernard Georges and then the rest of the members of the Assembly.
