Maintaining a natural skincare routine while at home

The tradition of creating homemade skincare has long been part of many cultures around the world, with recipes often handed down the generations. In recent years, homemade skincare has had a revival in line with the growth of the green beauty movement.

While many might not consider skincare as an essential step in their daily routine it is very important in maintaining the overall health of your skin, and while drinking lots of water may help it is useless on its own.

Taking care of your skin does not mean spending thousands of rupees on products. There are many DIY recipes that will help you create your own products and make your skin look great.

Overnight skin clearing treatment

Helping your skin with natural rejuvenation at night will make it more durable during the day and keep damaging factors like the sun, wind, stress and debris from penetrating the epidermal layer. A nighttime skin care routine that focuses on repair and hydration can keep your complexion clear and your skin firm.

There are many treatments when it comes to clearing your skin, but none works better than the natural one.

One plant that has been praised for its skincare benefits is aloe vera as it contains antioxidants, enzymes, Vitamins A and C, and it is highly anti-inflammatory. It can help treat burns, acne and dry skin.

Cutting a piece and applying it to your face can do wonders but adding a couple of other ingredients can go a long way in clearing your skin.

For this treatment you would need: two aloe vera leaves, tea tree oil, castor or vitamin E oil.

First cut the aloe vera leaves, remove the thorns and squeeze out the gel into a container, then add three drops of tea tree oil and one drop of castor oil or vitamin E oil, mix it or blend it.

You can apply this treatment every night after you're done toning your skin.

Acne reducing // pore minimising scrub

What is acne? What is it caused by? Acne is caused by an excess of oil glands that cause pimples on your skin. The pimples are most commonly on your face, but can be just about anywhere. You don’t have to use fancy lotions and creams that can often do more harm than good. Oftentimes, you can develop minor adult acne which can become more embarrassing than troublesome. Here is a great at home recipe for acne relief for minor breakouts.

Ingredients

1 tbsp fresh lemon juice

3 tbsp honey

2 drops tea tree oil

1 to 2 tbsp ground oatmeal (to desired consistency)

Anti-wrinkle serum using egg whites

No one likes wrinkles, but did you know that you can eliminate them virtually from ever having appeared using egg whites? The chilled egg whites serve as a firming agent which will reverse and essentially “fill in” the crow’s feet and wrinkles.

Remember: Using a daily face lotion will help to avoid premature wrinkles in the first place. Eat healthy and get plenty of rest to have the best skin!

The only ingredient you will need for this is fresh, chilled egg whites.

Lip scrub

Why is it important to exfoliate your lips?

Your lips go through the changes in weather, just like any part of your skin that is exposed to different climates. There are dead skin cells built up on your lips causing them to be dry and flaky often when they should not be. Use this lip scrub to rid yourself of chapped lips forever:

• Clean container

• 4 Aspirin (the inexpensive type without a coating)

• 2 tsp brown sugar

• 2 tsp honey

• 1 tsp olive oil

• 1 vitamin E capsule

Turmeric mask for bright skin

Turmeric consists of natural antioxidant, antiseptic and skin brightening properties and can do wonders in removing acne scars or unwanted blemishes.

Ingredients:

Two tsp of turmeric powder

Two tsp of freshly squeezed lemon

One tsp of honey

Leave on skin for only five minutes

Apple cider toner

Even though the smell is not pleasant, apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a natural skin care secret weapon.

As strange as it sounds, ACV is antiseptic and antibacterial, which is perfect for acne and getting rid of blackheads, and also balances the pH in your skin. It can lighten age spots, fade acne scars, and the best part… it is SUPER affordable.

It is recommended to use raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar and mix it in a 1:1 ratio with distilled water. If your skin is more dry or sensitive, dilute the mixture further with a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio of ACV to water.

Store the toner in an amber glass bottle with a dropper and use a cotton ball or pad to apply the toner all over your clean face.
