STA students experience ‘Hospitality Bootcamp’ at Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa

Over the past few weeks Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa has welcomed students from the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) as they undertook departmental training across the resort.

Each weekday included training slots for the students across a broad range of topics from housekeeping to kitchen management, as well as daily departmental and Passport To Success training.

The students stayed for an average of 25 days at Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa to complete educational sessions with the Labriz resort team on a variety of areas depending on their specialities.

For F&B Housekeeping students training topics included cocktail workshops, beverage photoshoot, service sequence, menu planning and F&B administration.

Housekeeping training topics covered room make-up, HSK desk and mini-bar training, while Kitchen specialty topics included food photoshoots, world cuisine classes, Sushi, Teppanyaki and plating workshops as well as kitchen management.

The Passport To Success programme is a world-class life skills curriculum that has been implemented in 30 countries, translated into 19 languages and has impacted the lives of more than 85,000 young people.

It is a holistic approach using an interactive methodology that focuses on professional development, problem solving, promoting healthy lifestyles, and working successfully in a diverse workplace.

The programme is currently being piloted in Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa which is preparing youth for success in the workplace, strengthening the capacity of local youth-serving organisations, such as the STA to better serve the employment needs of the next generation of hoteliers.

Andre Borg, general manager at Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa, said: “Our resort team endeavours to support the local community through training and events like this. We have an ongoing commitment towards training the next generation of hotel team members to provide the best possible service to all visitors.”

STA student Angel Belle said of the training experience: “From just a few weeks of working under the Hilton Seychelles Labriz team I have learnt a lot. The way the team welcomed us to the resort and helped with training across all aspects of service from the practical to attitude and the eco-friendly elements of the Labriz mission statement was an amazing experience. I am hopeful that I will be returning to the resort for my industry placement this year; Labriz was beyond my expectation.”
