Proposed Anse à la Mouche hotel development |09 February 2021

Preserve Seychelles voices out its concerns

Preserve Seychelles has said that it is against the proposed hotel development at Anse à la Mouche in its currently presented form, for the following reasons and/or concerns.

EIA

The proposal was presented to the public in August 2019 and as there was a lot of disagreement and concerns raised with regard to the road diversion, ownership of the land, wetland area, flora and fauna of the place in general, the consultant(s) along with the public agreed that they would take the different points of concerns as well as suggestions to look upon and that there would be a follow-up meeting with the concerned public.

This never happened and it is clear that the government bypassed this procedure and approved the project in an arbitrary manner.

Public road diversion

The diversion of the public road will definitely cause major displacement and adaptation for people and all traffic in the area. The benefits are seen to go towards the present leaseholder(s). We believe that disruption on that scale should be done and justified in the national interest.

Purchase value of the lease is way under market value

We believe that the amount paid is grossly undervalued and the government should relook at this issue and also justify the holding of 200 acres of land to a foreign company whose intentions are not clear at this moment in time, thus opening a huge door for speculation upon the untouched plot (s) as no one knows what their supposed phase 2 is about.
