Hard times on Mauritian beaches for Seychelles players                 

Seychelles’ four beach volleyball selections competing at the 10th Indian Ocean Island Games are finding life difficult to adapt to the Mauritian sand, losing all their weekend matches, with the exception of the men’s A selection who won a match against the Comoros yesterday.

On Saturday, the first day of competition, all four selections lost their inaugural matches against Reunion.

Firstly in the women’s competition, the Seychelles A selection made up of Terryl Songoire and Nathalie Agnes-Sauer lost their first match 0-2 (15-21, 12-21), while team B comprising Marie-Antoinette Labiche and Ingrid Frederick also lost their match 0-2 (16-21, 13-21).

In the men’s competition on Saturday, Seychelles A of Guilly Bijoux and Jerry Lozaique lost their match 0-2 (14-21, 10-21).

Team B, with Danny Marie and Henrico Ernesta were also on the losing end on Saturday, losing their match 0-2 (14-21, 11-21)

Yesterday in the men’s competition, it all started well for Seychelles when team A defeated the Comoros 2-0 in their first match. The set scores were 21-11 and 21-17.

The joy was short-lived when team B were defeated by the Comoros to even things at the Mont Choisy Beach Volley Arena.

The Comoros won the match 2-0 (21-17, 21-08) to force a golden match which Seychelles again lost 0-2 (16-21, 18-21).

Seychelles’ men selection was in action again yesterday afternoon against Mauritius.

Our A selection lost the first match 0-2 (14-21, 12-21), while the B selection won their match by forfeit after one of the Mauritian players was injured.

In the golden match, Seychelles lost 1-2 (17-21, 21-17, 8-15)

Today, the women’s team will play against Mauritius, while the men will play against the Maldives.
