Chinese professionals to boost level of local players FOUR professional table tennis players from Beijing, China, are now taking part in a one-month training camp with local players.
Members of the Beijing Sports University, the players arrived last Friday accompanied by coach Zhen You, who is leading the delegation.
During the training camp they will share their knowledge with our junior and senior players, thus boosting their level in terms of technique and playing skills.
The visit followed a request by the Seychelles Table Tennis Association (STTA) and is being funded by the National Sports Council and the Chinese embassy in Seychelles.
Local coach Jimmy Vel said the training camp has come at an opportune moment as the younger players are in full preparation – training six days a week from Monday to Saturday – for the forthcoming CJSOI games. He added that it will also help to prepare the senior players for the African Championships in the Congo in November.
Coach Zhen You said local players will benefit greatly from the expertise of her team and she has already detected great improvement in the technique of some players, which will help them in the upcoming competitions.
The Chinese team are staying at Maison Football, Roche Caïman, and will leave the country on July 26. Meanwhile the STTA is planning to send a local team to China next year.
