Seychelles now has a twin-engine helicopter that can fly further, with more passengers and at night.

It was unveiled on Thursday at Eden Island by Helicopter Seychelles, which bought the Agusta 109C in the US for $3 million.
The helicopter can carry up to seven passengers, compared with a maximum of four that the firm’s other four can take.

Helicopter Seychelles’ chief executive Rick Dooley said since it has a longer range it can easily reach the Amirantes, even at night.

“The others can too, but it is preferable that they fly by day,” he told Nation, adding that the new helicopter can be a major asset in the event of a search-and-rescue operation.

He said the economic trend in Seychelles, particularly during the last 18 months, has created the demand for the new helicopter.

“She is faster, more powerful and more spacious than any other commercial helicopter in The new Agusta 109CSeychelles,” said Captain Dooley.
“This powerful new machine, with its reliable technology, leather interior and its aerodynamic features will offer a unique experience to air travellers, whether it’s island hopping in comfort or covering longer distances in shorter periods of time.”

Captain Dooley said never before has night-time helicopter flight been an option in Seychelles.
“Besides the Agusta, a number of other Helicopter Seychelles aircraft are being upgraded to serve this purpose. Some owners of helipads have already started preparing them to comply with the requirements of this new asset and all hope to see a few operational soon,” he said.

He stressed that night flying will not only benefit the general air commuter but can also provide lifesaving possibilities for future medical evacuations.

Helicopter Seychelles has been serving the local air transport market for over a decade and boasts an impeccable safety record of zero fatalities.

“In collaboration with all its tourism partners, Helicopter Seychelles has always striven to provide its customers not only with a better view of paradise but with an unforgettable experience in one of the world’s most beautiful destinations,” said Captain Dooley.
