Consumers are being advised not to buy LPG (gas kwi manze) at the old price of R21.50 a kilo, following reports that some retailers are still selling it above the newly revised price of R15 a kilo.

The reduction in the price of LPG (liquid petroleum gas) was announced on Monday by the Seychelles Petroleum Company (Seypec), along with a R2 decrease in the price of petrol (bennzin), which now stands at R15 a litre at the pump.

But in a communiqué received from the National Consumers Forum (Natcof), Seychelles Nation has learned that the consumer organisation has been receiving complaints that some shops in Anse Royale and Anse Etoile are still selling cooking gas at the old price, or in other cases above the newly set price.

Issuing a notice to consumers, Natcof is urging them not to buy gas above the set price but advises them to buy their gas at Seypec’s outlets, where prices are regulated.

Part of the communiqué reads: “Now that there is a new consignment of LPG at a reduced price, consumers should benefit from it.” It also calls for retailers to respect the new price revision.

On another matter, Natcof has expressed its appreciation over the SPTC’s decision to keep the R2 bus fare for all school children.

It says it received many complaints from parents after the announcement that school children travelling on buses outside their specific regions will have to pay the full fare of R7.

It continues: “Natcof was very concerned with this issue, because it was affecting many parents financially.”
