| Seychelles-branded car wins Formula 2 championship - 05.11.2009
The Seychelles Tourism Board-branded Formula 2 car driven by Andy Soucek has taken the 2009 F2 championship title after winning last Sunday’s final race in Barcelona, Spain.
The STB’s logo, a sponsorship received from local business Hunt Deltel & Company, stood out as the main logo on Soucek’s car as he crossed the finishing line watched by director of tourism marketing Alain St Ange, the STB’s Paris office manager Bernadette Willemin – who is also responsible for promoting Seychelles in Spain – and Mike King-Harman of Hunt Deltel & Company.
The race was broadcast live on Euro Sports, and press coverage received by Soucek and his winning car has helped raised the visibility of Seychelles.
“The Seychelles Tourism Board’s logos were so visible on the race car, and with Andy Soucek winning the F2 Championship our logo was everywhere,” said Mr St Ange.
“As the tourism board, we are happy to have been associated with the Andy Soucek race team as it raised our visibility, not only in his home country of Spain but also all over Europe as the race was beamed live on the main TV sports channels. “For this, the STB wants to place on record its appreciation to Hunt Deltel & Company for having made this PR exercise a possibility.”
Seychelles depends on tourism, which remains a pillar of its economy, and it is important to be always on the lookout for opportunities and events that will help bring the name Seychelles to the world.
The STB and the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association have been working closely together to make Seychelles better known and more visible.
“We follow state visits made by President James Michel to capitalise on the interest in our country that such visits bring,” said Mr St Ange.
“Along with Louis D’Offay, the chairman of the industry’s association, and Jennifer Sinon, its chief executive, we work to create possibilities that will open doors for Seychelles to remain visible.” The Formula 2 championship was one such opportunity, fully sponsored by the private sector, where Seychelles has benefited from wide press coverage and has had its profile raised. |
