Three top local judokas left the country on Monday bound for Rio, Brazil to take part in the world judo championships.

The judokas are all Praslinois and are led by 2012 judoka of the year Dominique Dugasse who was also runner-up to Sportsman of the Year Andrique Allisop.

Dugasse will compete in the 100kg category, Naddy Jeanne -73kg and Leslie Philoé -81kg.  They will be accompanied by Romanian coach Christian Velici and Seychelles Judo Federation chairperson Monique Athanase who will be attending the International Judo Federation congress on August 26-27 where there will be election of office bearers.

As for the world championship, which is expected to draw some top athletes across the globe, it will run from August 27 to September 2.

According to chairperson Athanase who spoke to Sports Nation before the delegation’s departure, this competition will serve as a preparation for our athletes who are expected to compete in the Commonwealth Games.

Chairperson Athanase added that Jeanne and Philoé have been preparing locally while Dugasse just returned to the country last week after attending a one-month training camp in France.
The trip to Brazil has been made possible through financial support by the National Sports Council, the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association and the IJF.

The local delegation is expected back in the country on September 2.
