Archbishop Nugent arrives for eight-day visit |27 September 2013

Archbishop Eugene Martin Nugent, Apostolic Nuncio to the diocese of Port Victoria, is expected to arrive here today on an eight-day visit (September 27-October 4).

While here, Archbishop Nugent will meet the clergy, religious sisters and lay people involved in church movements and service.

He will visit parishes on Mahé as well as the islands of Praslin and La Digue.

Archbishop Nugent was born on October 21, 1958 in Co. Clare, Ireland and was ordained to the priesthood in 1983.

He obtained a doctorate in Canon Law and entered the diplomatic services of the Holy See on July 1, 1992. He has worked in Turkey, Israel (Jerusalem) and Manila, Philippines.

On February 15, 2010 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio for Madagascar, Seychelles and Mauritius, and Apostolic Delegate to the Comoros and Reunion. On the occasion of his appointment, he was ordained as Archbishop and resides in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
