Savings Bank changes name to Seychelles Commercial Bank |28 September 2013
The bank’s new name and logo
The Seychelles Savings Bank has changed its name to Seychelles Commercial Bank.
The new name with an attractive new logo and a catchy slogan ‘So much more for you’ was officially unveiled yesterday evening by Minister for Finance, Trade and Investment Pierre Laporte at The Wharf Hotel in the presence of ministers, Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles Caroline Abel and many distinguished guests that included many clients of the bank.
Minister Laporte and Governor Abel congratulated the bank for changing its name and introducing many new services.
The managing director of the bank, Michael Benstrong, spoke extensively about the history of the bank and reasons for the name change.
He explained that the word “Savings” attached to the name was not conveying the correct message to the general public which all along perceived it to be a “bank which deals with salaried class, pensioners and small businessmen only”.
“While we are proud to be dealing with every class of customers, the name was restrictive in its connotations and was not reflective of the true nature of activities conducted by the bank which also included foreign exchange and other commercial activities,” he said.
“By removing the word ‘Savings’ and replacing same with ‘Commercial’ will not demand any further explanations and the message will come out loud and clear to everyone,” he said.
Nation will come back on yesterday evening’s ceremony in a future issue.
