Montessori Pre-school celebrates teacher’s achievements |05 October 2013

The Children’s House Montessori Pre-school at Bel Air is celebrating the achievement of their staff on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.

After five years of study, Miss Peggy James has passed her Montessori Teaching Diploma and is one of the first Seychellois to reach the internationally recognised level of training in the Montessori method.

The training was initially sponsored by The Children’s House, Montessori Pre-school.
Stage one of the teacher training involves two years of theoretical study and assignments marked by trainers in London. In stage two, students then attend practical workshops and examinations which Miss Peggy attended in London and South Africa.

The third stage comprises 410 hours of teaching practice, which was carried out at the Children’s House, an official MCI venue for teaching practice students.
Finally the theory exam combines all skills the students have gained and successful students are awarded the Early Childhood Teaching Diploma, UK DfE Level 4.

Miss Peggy has been working at the Children’s House Pre-school for the past 11 years where her experience and knowledge in the field of Montessori teaching is continuously practiced and developed.
Academic achievements are what motivates trainee teachers, and form the basis for continuous professional development.

The director of the Children’s House, Lucy Talbot-Ponsonby, firmly believes that all those in the teaching profession can only provide quality reflective practice through ongoing training and development.

Many other members of staff at the Children’s House are at different stages of their development as Montessori teachers sponsored by both the school and the Children’s Fund, Seychelles.
Teachers’ Day is an excellent time for reflection and assessment of the progress we are making in our special work with children.
