Karting-Pothin wins SKA's anniversary event |01 October 2004
Even though they were in celebration mood, the drivers, who took part in Sunday's event, kept their composure to produce exciting races.
The winner at the finish line was Pothin who made the most of a great opportunity when Carlos Larue crashed out on the last lap after having been in the lead for most of the race.
Sunday’s victory was Pothin's third and he is now at the top of the championship standings.
Sebastian Delorie settled for the runner-up berth, while Michael Juliette took the final podium position.
Carlos Larue, who had completed two thirds of the distance before crashing out, was awarded fourth position, while Jake Juliette finished a distant fifth.
After Sunday’s competition, members, drivers, parents and guests joined to celebrate the Seychelles Karting Association's (SKA)10th anniversary.
There were speeches by SKA chairman Gerard Ah-Shung and other long serving members on the association's executive committee.
The SKA took the opportunity to launch its website, while karts and equipment were also on display. Those present also viewed a small photo exhibition depicting the history off karting in Seychelles since its inception in 1993. Those present also enjoyed a barbecue.
Also on Sunday, nine SKA members received honorary life membership of gold, silver and bronze stars for their contribution towards the association's activities over the past 10 years.
A group of 'extreme' cyclists then competed in a cyclo-cross competition with the top honours going to Raymond Florentine. Eugene Esparon and Ian Confiance were second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, kart racing will resume on October 17 with round 11 of the National Championship for Formula A, Junior and Cadet classes.
