Football: Sunkiss'd division one-Rajaobery's brace hands La Passe derby win

La Passe's Rajaobery (left) scored a brace against Anse Réunion and will be looking for more goals against Red Star on Saturday

The win has put coach Vojo Gardasevic's La Passe in a good position to win their second league title in two years after their main rivals Red Star and St Louis dropped vital points over the weekend.

Red Star, it is to be noted, drew 1-1 against SMB last Friday while third-placed St Louis fell 0-1 to the much-improved Light Stars on Saturday on La Digue.

With three more matches left to be played, La Passe, who have taken to the field 15 times, have 34 points from a possible 45, three more than current runners-up Red Star.
On Sunday, La Passe got a brace from Malagasy import Eric 'Didy' Rajaobery to secure three much-needed points.

The dimunitive striker gave La Passe the lead in the 21st minute but his colleague from Anse Réunion, Jocelyn Jaovavoana, levelled matters in the 59th minute.

Eight minutes later (67th), the same 'Didy' made sure of the win for La Passe with his second goal.

La Passe's next match is against Red Star this coming Saturday on La Digue and a win for the Diguois will see them lift the trophy for a second time in their history.

Their first exploit was in 2002 when they were crowned joint-league champions with Anse Aux Pins-based St Michel.

After the much-anticipated match against Red Star on Saturday, La Passe will be left with two more matches to play at home before the 2004 season ends. They are to meet lowly Plaisance on Saturday October 30 and Northern Dynamo on Sunday November 7.

As for Red Star, their last league match will be against strugglers Northern Dynamo on October 23.

Like Red Star, third-placed St Louis, who have 30 points after 16 matches, have two more games to play on October 9 against Plaisance and on October 16 against Sunshine.
