Football-SALA FF and Baie Ste Anne 96ers play dour goalless draw |01 December 2004
The match, played inside an almost empty Stad Linite, lacked goal-mouth actions and ingredients to keep the handful of spectators on the edge of their seats.
Despite being slow on the ball, the Swedes enjoyed more possession and were the more enterprising of the two sides.
They should have broken the deadlock in the 57th minute but their captain, Frenchman Thierry Bizot, shot wide a Tommy Johansson assist.
In the 76th minute, Baie Ste Anne 96ers' captain Steve Marie released an unmarked Darren Omath on the right flank but his attempted lob sailed over the cross-bar.
Five minutes from time, SALA FF's custodian Viktor Eriksson had to leave his goalline to close down the angle on Marcus Volcère who looked in a good scoring position.
Both teams were happy with the draw after the final whistle.
Said SALA FF manager Lars Alenius: "We had a good time on the pitch today (TUesday). The game was great though we slowed down the pace a little in the second half. We hope to give a better display against St Louis on Saturday."
As for Baie Ste Anne 96ers' trainer Dereck Barbé, he said that the game was a good preparation for his team who will be plying their trade in the top flight next year.
"I think the game has served as a good preparation for the players as we are going to play first division football next season . With more preparation ahead of the game I think we could have given a better demonstration. I think that my players gave their best and I congratulate them for their efforts," he said.
The visitors, who are here on a week-long training camp, are to play their farewell match on Saturday December 4 against Sunkiss'd division one league runners-up St Louis.
