Docklands Supermarket aims for variety, quality

The supermarket is located on the ground floor of Docklands Commercial Centre on Latanier Road

After a period of inconsistency in the availability of certain products on the market, a well-packed Docklands Supermarket opened just around New Year, a welcoming sight for customers who had been eagerly awaiting its opening.

The supermarket is just one of the several businesses that are to be in operation in the Docklands Commercial Centre, located on Latanier Road opposite the IDC car park.

Describing the supermarket as a step forward into the future, Mr Serge Pool, one of the directors of the company, told Business Nation, that it represents fresh hope for the people in Seychelles.

For the moment, he said, the supermarket is being stocked mainly with essential items that consumers had been looking for.

Among the items that can be found are a variety of Kellogg's children products of different flavours and colours, new selection of Hero fruit jams, Heinz canned products, Maggie spices, fruit salad, biscuits and top brand pasta from Italy, Palmolive and Dove shower cream, a wide range of detergents, an assortment of sweet delicacies such as dessert puddings, and much more.

The supermarket is open Monday to Friday from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m and on Saturday until 1.00 p.m. Mr Pool said they are still studying the possibility to open on Sundays, but confirmed that as from February Docklands Supermarket will open until 8.00 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.

Late night shopping is a fairly new concept in Seychelles, but with the opening of the Docklands cinema and restaurant in February, the complex is expected to be a major public area, with both day-time and night-time businesses in full operation.

The cinema, to be run by Deepam’s, will open with a movie premiere of either Batman Begins or Kingdom of Heaven.

Besides the supermarket, some 15 other businesses such as hairdressing salons, cosmetic, clothing and stationery shops and Internet café, caféteria, just to name a few, have already been opened.
