Bernard Pool elected SCCI chairman |05 April 2005

The election took place during the organisation's 68th annual general meeting held on Friday.

Mr Pool succeeds Mr Albert Payet who has stepped down after completing a two-year mandate.  

The elections of the management committee of SCCI's Council for 2005, held at the International Conference Centre, also saw Mr Basil Soundy elected as the vice-chairman, with Mr Beatty Hoareau as the honorary secretary and Mr Yusuf Suleman reinstated as the treasurer.

12 other members were also appointed to the SCCI's Council as office bearers for the period of April 2005 to March 2006.

In his annual report, Mr Payet spoke at length on the work done over the past year, citing the Chamber's involvement in the Joint Economic Council (JEC), preparation of the Investment Code and the review of employment legislation.

Mr Payet noted that "the Chamber has become a major interlocutor for all international missions to the country, in obtaining views and position of the private sector on all matters pertaining to business and economic development."

Mr Payet expressed confidence in the future, although he said there was still much work to be done to consolidate the achievements of the past year.
