8-year-old boy dies following accident |19 April 2005

According to the police the pick-up was travelling from Takamaka towards Victoria when the accident happened just before 1 p.m.

Police said that some of the passengers were trapped under the vehicle following the accident.

Police, Fire Brigade officers and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene from where the injured, six in all, were brought to Anse Royale Hospital for medical assistance.

The 8-year-old boy, Syrouse Bristol who was unconscious, was transported to Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2.30 p.m.

The five other casualties, ranging in age from 6 to 23 years, were also transported to Victoria Hospital to undergo x-ray.
According to the police only a 15-year-old boy is still admitted at the D'Offay Ward.


Five hurt in road accident on Providence Highway

A 15-day-old baby girl has been admitted to the Victoria Hospital and four other people were treated then released following a road accident on the Providence Highway on Saturday night (April 16).

According to a communiqué from the police the accident occurred when a car coming from the south and heading towards Victoria collided with a taxi travelling from Victoria towards Petit Paris.

According to the communiqué it was upon reaching the junction at Petit Paris that the two vehicles collided and the Victoria-bound car overturned.

Apart from the 15-day-old baby, the other passengers in the taxi were a three-year-old girl and a woman.

In the overturned car were a 22-year-old man who sustained head and neck injuries and a-31-year-old man who sustained seven stitches on the forehead. The driver received treatment at the Victoria Hospital for minor injuries.

The police are carrying out an investigation into the real cause and circumstances of the accident.


Taxi hits 75-year-old woman

Rush hour traffic slowed to a crawl through central Victoria Monday morning (April 18) after 75-year-old Therese Napier was hit by a taxi next to the Clock Tower.

Police and ambulances hurried to the scene, backing up downtown commuters, before rushing Mrs Napier to Victoria Hospital.
Happily Mrs Napier was not seriously injured and, after x-rays revealed no broken bones, she was discharged from hospital.

Sub Inspector Francis Songoire of the Police Traffic Division said that an investigation into the incident was under way and that statements would be taken from Mrs Napier and the driver of the taxi.

He also appealed to any witnesses to the accident, which occurred in front of Nouvobanq, to contact the Traffic Division on 288000.
