Election of Pope Benedict XVI-Opposition leader sends message of congratulations |21 April 2005
In his message, addressed to Bishop Denis Wiehe of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Victoria, Mr Ramkalawan says:
"On the occasion of the election of Pope Benedict XVI at the head of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, I join with the people of Seychelles to convey my sincere best wishes to the Holy Father, to yourself and to all members of the Roman Catholic faith in Seychelles.
"As the passing away of Pope John Paul II was mourned by every Seychellois, the election of Pope Benedict XVI brings the assurance that the Roman Catholic Church once more has a devoted pastor and a wise leader. I am sure that he will bring the moral and spiritual leadership that will fulfil the mission of the Church and I hope that under his direction it will continue to play a vital role in the search for peace and justice.
"I express my sincere wishes for the pontificate of Pope Benedict, and for the Roman Catholic Church in Seychelles and around the world."
